Expert biography

Dr Mohammad Alsuwaidan is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, where he is cross-appointed to the Division of Neurosciences and Clinical Translation and the Division of Psychotherapy, Humanities and Psychosocial Interventions. He is also the Founder and Clinical Director of MindWell, a leading regional private mental health centre based in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Dr Alsuwaidan completed his psychiatry residency, mood and anxiety disorders fellowship and medical education fellowship at the University of Toronto. He also trained in mood disorders at the Stanford University Bipolar Clinic, Stanford, USA, and at the Tufts Medical Center Mood Disorders Clinic, Boston, USA. Dr Alsuwaidan completed a Masters of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.

Dr Alsuwaidan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is certified in public health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

Dr Alsuwaidan has previously served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Kuwait University, Head of the Mental Health Unit at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital and Founding Head of Mood & Anxiety Disorders, Inaugural Director of Education and Chief of Psychiatry at the Kuwait Centre for Mental Health—Kuwait's national mental health hospital—in Kuwait City, Kuwait. He has also served as Residency Program Director and Faculty Chair for the Kuwait Board of Psychiatry, President of the Kuwait Psychiatric Association and Kuwait's representative for mental health to the World Health Organization.
