Professor Friedemann Paul, MD, PhD, is Vice Dean of Research with a clinical focus at Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany, as well as Director of the Experimental and Clinical Research Center in Berlin. Professor Friedmann is also a medical consultant for the European Union and an associate editor for Neurology: Neuroimmunology & Neuroinflammation alongside his role as an academic editor for PLOS ONE.
Professor Paul’s research interests include neuromyelitis optica (Devic’s syndrome); neurodegeneration and neuroprotection in multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; neurological complications of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases; diagnostic tools in neuroimmunology (imaging [optical coherence tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound], laboratory and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers); and the association between structural damage and dysfunction of the visual system in autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system.
