Expert biography

Philip Gorwood is a Professor of Psychiatry at Sainte-Anne Hospital, University of Paris, and Head of a team at Research Unit 1266, INSERM, Paris, France. His main topics of research are related to genetic vulnerability to psychiatric and addictive disorders. Professor Gorwood studied medicine from 1982-1988, before specializing in psychiatry and completing a PhD in genetics. In 1992, he was the recipient of the Lilly Award for best First Communication, and later received the French National Academy of Medicine Award for best research against alcohol dependence. Professor Gorwood is the current president of the European Psychiatry Association (EPA), and a member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology scientific advisory board. He is the Editor-in-chief of the French Journal of Psychiatry and serves on the editorial board for several journals. Professor Gorwood is the author or co-author of more than 200 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, including Molecular Psychiatry, The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and The British and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
