Expert biography

Professor Heinz Wiendl, MD, PhD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology with Institute of Translational Neurology, University Hospital Münster, Germany. He is also Honorary Professor at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran, and Sydney Medical School, Australia. Professor Wiendl is the speaker of the Collaborative Research Center 128 "Multiple Sclerosis", and speaker of the disease-related competence network Multiple Sclerosis (KKNMS). He is the founder and principal investigator of the "Body and Brain Institute" Muenster, a prestigious research building funded by the German Federal Ministry.

Professor Wiendl’s research interests include neuroinflammation and neuroimmunology, immune regulation in multiple sclerosis and autoimmune nervous system disorders, immune mediated and inflammatory mechanisms of neurodegeneration, and immune cell trafficking into the central nervous system. Professor Wiendl’s research also extends to biomarkers and biosignatures related to multiple sclerosis, and immunotherapy and the associated adverse effects.

Professor Wiendl has authored over 600 articles in peer-reviewed publications and has an h index of 70.
